As we complete the 2007-2008 school year I find myself grateful for the many things that are going so right with the Spanish Fork High School bands. I have been impressed with students, parents, administrators, and friends. I find myself thinking that we are on a path that leads to some excellent places!
Our students have performed very well. I am impressed with how they have learned to become a solid group. The Concert Bands determination to take on challenging music was inspiring. "Of Sailors and Whales" was an example of a group grasping onto something that seemed out of reach. I was totally pleased as they performed at such a high performance level and accomplished so much, creating a great sound with excellent music. I was also grateful that both Concert and Jazz Bands recieved such great recognition as they took home the first prizes in their respective divisions in the "Music in the Parks" festival. That was a treat for everyone who was there. The Jazz Band also impressed me as they learned from listening to others and developing their techniques in improvisation. The focus on being creative opened up a side of the Jazz Band that was so much fun and very energetic. It was clear from watching our students that they have great ideas and make positive results when they focus on working together. Our Marching Band also did a great job as they competed and worked in the adverse weather conditions. I'm glad that our hypothermic experiences were limited to only a few! I'm even more grateful for the feeling that we shared after the great performances in St. George and Las Vegas. Kudos to the band for pushing strong to the end. I also am extremely pleased that the band boosters program is up and running. To you parents and friends that do so much for the bands, students, and myself, I express my heartfelt gratitude. I watch the things you all do and marvel. Because of your efforts we have already had two successful fundraisers, an excellent banquet, many helpers at all our events, and so much more. To you many helping hands, Thank You! Now, to the future. We start marching band in June, and Concert and Jazz Bands in August. I expect next years results to pick up right where we left off this year and continue to improve. I would love to see students and parents committed to creating great musical, personal, and interpersonal experiences. I hope that the next year brings dedication, commitment, happiness, and success. Let's all work hard to ensure that the members of the Spanish Fork High School Bands family have a great year to come. I look forward to working with you all again soon. Thanks again for everything!
